This is about the complicated restricted-development engine rules in f1.Does everyone remember how they work? For those that cant remember exactly, basically there is no development during the season, then a certain percentage of change is allowed at the start of each subsequent season. For example in 2015 about 48% of the engine can be changed from last year. For 2016 it will be much less, and so on for 2017
Well this was supposed to be the case except someone made a tiny mistake when writing the regulations.Apparently the rules dont say SPECIFICALLY when in 2015 a manufacturer has to submit their final engine spec for homologation. The implication being that teams can develop the engine all year and submit the final spec at the last race of the season!
So when this loophole was bought to their attention, what do you think the fia did?Perhaps they explained that the spirit of the rules strongly imply that date should be before the season starts?I mean that's what a normal sensible person would do right? After all that's how everyone intended the rules to work! If there was a court case on this the slam dunk result would come down in favour of what ALL THE TEAMS intended the spirit of the rules to be.Of course they'd have to submit their engine regs before the season starts!
But no.The fia have now said that "the most logical and robust" way to handle this is to allow the teams to allow the loophole to stand.WTF?! WHY.Why would the fia cave in like that??They make themselves look completely Stupid.Yet again
Sigh.No wonder people refuse to watch f1.Very little of it makes sense :-(
